The Healthy Spaghetti

There's really something about spaghetti that children really enjoy. It's the default menu for all children's parties (at least all children parties I know) along with chicken lollipop. (Side track: My mother-in-law makes the best chicken lollipop ever!) Anyway, children of all ages really love spaghetti and can probably eat it all day. My little Rainbow is no different. She loves pasta! Everytime there's pasta is on the table, she always finishes her share.

So this morning, after some errands I decided to pass by the grocery and buy stuff for her spaghetti. All I would need is spaghetti sauce (If I could make it from scratch, I would however my cooking skills won't allow me) and pasta, and ground meat.

Easter Sunday Events 2013 in Manila

Nothing's more perfect than spending time with your family in celebrating Easter Sunday! Do you have plans already? If not, there's tons of Easter events you can go to! And I made the liberty to research and collect some events in Manila (and one for Bacolod) for March 31, 2013 and compiled them in a list so you can check and select! Hope this is helpful!

Below are posters for Easter events for hotels and malls in alphabetical order ;-)

New Attractions at Fun Ranch! Oh, and a GIVEAWAY!

During my childhood days, I remember my Dad taking me and my sister to in Greenhills and ride this UFO kiddie ride installed right smack in the center of ViraMall. It was that type of ride where you insert a token and then the ride just moves back and fourth in place. I think I was 3 years old at that time but it is still very fresh in my memory. I was always so happy whenever my Dad would take me. (Getting emotional while typing hehe). It was a very simple ride but to a toddler it was the coolest thing ever!

28 years later, I'm now turning 31 years old with a 17 month old baby girl, ViraMall is now known as V-Mall, and the UFO kiddie ride is now replaced with some flea market of clothes. Time changes so fast but the memories will live forever. I wanted to have a special place where I can take Rain and make her own kiddie ride memory with me and Richie. Would be cool if it were the same UFO ride I rode in Greenhills but that's gone.

Luckily, there's a children's complex which is a bit closer to our home in Pasig. A place filled with attractions and activities for kids. For sure you already know this place. Fun Ranch! The one in Tiendesitas has been around for a year or so I believe but I never really had the chance to explore it, until last weekend (Saturday, March 23) when I joined other mommy bloggers for the unveiling of Fun Ranch's new attractions!

Sudden Display of Affection

A simple smile from Rain warms my heart like hot coco with three huge marshmallows.

At 17 months, there's a lot of new things everyday that Rain does that just surprises me. This is why every parent is saying that this is the most amusing age for a child. But this morning, Rain did something new that just totally made my life!

A Super Book

For days I have been wanting to buy a book that will help me aid Rain's development. I have been so worried that I am not doing a thorough job in teaching Rain what she should be learning at this point. I felt so lost. Plus I felt like I wasn't a great teacher. (So many worries. You wouldn't want to get inside my head).

So anyway I was killing time in National Bookstore a few days ago and checked out the parenting section. How do you know which book to buy? There are tons and it's not like I can buy all of them. They're not exactly cheap. I read the back of each book so I can decide which would be the best buy for me. And more importantly if it covers what I want to learn as a first time mom. I saw this SUPERBABY book by Dr. Jenn Berman, read the back, and keywords I was looking for started flying out of the back cover:

My Purpose for Blogging?

I was staring at the blank sheet of Write 2 app, trying to think of what post to do next. I know I have a couple of past family events lined up that I wanted to post but I didn't have the time yet to browse through the photos and pick which to use. I just felt like writing something short, that didn't require a lot of photos to watermark and arrange. Like an inspiring, in depth thought that I could share across the world wide web.

I Love Saturdays

Don't you just love Saturdays? You don't have to wake up early and think about work, and you don't have to sleep early to wake up early the next day. I especially love this Saturday because it's the day that Rain came home from her overnight stay with mom. Since I had to be somewhere last night, we thought it would be nice for Rain to spend the night with her Bita :-)

I love our little Rainbow so much. She's such a joy! But of course she can be very tiring to attend to. So I have to admit I was also savoring the moment that Rain was in someone elses care. At least I got to relax a bit. But of course I missed her. Everyday. Even when she's with me. Even when she' just sleeping, I miss her. When she's awake and being rambunctious, I want her to take a nap. But when she's taking a long nap, I would wish she would wake up soon. Motherhood's such a roller coaster ride.

What is Multi-Tasking?

Multi-tasking is doing more than one task at the same time. In my case, as a stay-at-home-mom with no house hold help, it's attending to Rain's needs, cooking, doing laundry, and working on my writting gigs all at the same time.

But in this taxi driver's case, it's driving a cab and selling embutido and peanut butter at the same time. Only in the Philippines!

Roseola?

There's nothing more terrifying when your little bundle of joy shows signs of illness. It's heart-breaking for a mom to see her baby uncomfortable, or even worse, in pain. Especially when you're confident that your baby is very healthy and doesn't easily get sick. (Breastfeeding, even when I only get to breastfeed at night, really pays off big time! Stronger immunity system!)

But of course health isn't always predictable. A couple of nights ago I got a scare when Rain's body felt hot and she seemed like she was a bit irritable. I took her temperature and it was 38.11. Panicked, I texted Rain's pedia to report her fever. She asked me to give Rain Tempra (fever medicine) and bring her to her clinic the following day. So I asked Richie (who was still at work at that time) to buy Tempra for toddlers.

Family Trip to Avilon Zoo

"We're going to the zoo this weekend" Richie told me one afternoon. Yay! Family day! Turns out the whole family was going to Avilon Zoo as a way to celebrate Rain's cousin's birthday. Rain's Bito and Bita (grandmother and grandfather), Titos and Titas (uncles and aunts), and cousins. This was going to be fun!

Tonga Baby Sling

I was window shopping at the Mommy Mundo Expo Kid, not really sure of what to buy. We don't exactly have a lot of extra moolah to go on a wide shopping spree, so I want to make sure that whatever I choose to buy was going to be worth it. But days before attending Kid Expo, I already kind of knew what I needed to get. I wanted to get a new baby carrier. I loved my Idigo Baby's Baby Pouch but it doesn't fit me and Rain anymore (its because she's growing okay??? Hahaha deffensive) and also because since I can be a scatter-brain sometimes, I can't seem to find it anywhere. I might have left it at my in-laws house or its probably somewhere at home underneath a pile of whatever.

So anyway, after window shopping on all the booths of Expo Kid, I came across R-Trevi Concepts. Like all the others, its a delightful little booth with interesting baby items. But the item that really caught my attention was this colorful hammock-looking sash. And the display photo beside it showed that it was actually a baby carrier.

Ding! Ding! Ding!

Aha! A new baby carrier that looks like nothing I've seen before! Target locked!

Tiny Buds Hand Sanitizer

I was browsing through an issue of Smart Parenting magazine a few months before I gave birth and I saw this hand sanitizer that says "Food Safe Ingredients". I thought to myself I have to have this in Rain's diaper bag all the time.

Clean little hands are good to see!

Mommy Mundo's Expo Kid 2013 - Year 5

“Bleep!” goes the Facebook Chat. It was an old neighbor of mine who recently just gave birth to her adorable baby girl. She asked me what baby carrier I used for Rain, and if I tried this brand and that brand. I froze for a bit. I was dumb-founded. This made me realize how outdated I am with the baby items on the market nowadays. I haven’t really been attending other baby/kid bazaars for a long time. And then I remembered Bug & Kelly’s coverphoto of Mommy Mundo’s Expo Kid coming up that weekend. Once again everything happens for a reason. (Including facebook chats hehe). I asked Richie if We can  squeeze in Expo Kid on Saturday. Positive! So off we go!

Rain's First Toothbrush

When Rain grew 4 cute little teeth, I bought a finger silicon toothbrush so I can start introducing her to the "fun" task of tooth brushing  Yay! Personal hygiene 101. And of course being a baby, she didn't care what it was. She actually liked it when I rubbed the silicon bristles gently against her teeth and gums with sterilized water.

Finger silicon toothbrush with case

Fast forward to present time. Rain now has 4 more teeth plus 2 molars. And so I decided to ask her Pedia if it was okay to use baby toothpaste now. I got the go signal as long as I used a toothpaste for babies and just use a pea sized amount. So of course I was excited to buy her first actual toothbrush and toothpaste!

Breakfast Magazine Anniversary (and my first giveaway!)

Last February 15, Breakfast Magazine celebrated it's first year anniversary at Cafe 1771 in El Pueblo, Ortigas. It was an intimate gathering with guests that are close to Breakfast Magazine's heart. And The Pickiest Eater (a hilarious food blog of my husband with me as his "food pornographer"), was touched that they invited us to celebrate with them!

How To Remove Garlic Smell Off Hands

Its been 6 months, 8 days, 12 hours and still the smell of garlic lingers in my fingers. And since it's only recently that I have been learning how to cook, I never really googled on how to take garlic smell off hands until yesterday. For sure I'm the last person on earth who knows this but I'll write it here anyways...

So turns out all you need is a spoon. Or any stainless steel. It's quite odd actually.

1. Wash hands with soap and water
2. Rinse
3. Wash hands again under running water while rubbing a stainless steel (except knife of course haha) all over your hands. Just rub-a-dub-dub.

That's it. I tried it yesterday when I sauted some veggies and guess what, it actually worked. (Aaah so THAT's what those stainless steel soaps are for!) Apparently there is still no real scientific explanation as to why steel lifts off garlic smell but if you know, do sharee coz I'm really curious about it.

Happy Saturday evening!:-)

Growing Up with Bug and Kelly

Meeting Richie and being married to him is one of the greatest highlights of my life. There’s nothing more wonderful than being married to your best friend. With Richie, I did not only gain a partner, but I gained another loving family as well. Let’s face it, those drama situations in most telenovelas wherein the wife doesn't get along well with the in laws do happen in real life. And I thank my God everyday that I do not have to got through that. I now have another sweet and amazing family! This is how I met my sweet new siblings! Ryan, Rose and Raquel.

Eventually I got to meet the husbands of my sisters. Randy (Rose’s) and Julio (Raquel’s). It’s fun to watch these two couples when they kid each other and be so sweet to each other at the same time! I’m not sure if they know this but I actually look up to them for their strong partnerships. (Now they know hehe). If you meet them they look like they’re still on the honeymoon stage. I kid you not! It’s really amazing! But for this post, the spotlight is on Raquel and Julio :-)
