The Healthy Spaghetti

There's really something about spaghetti that children really enjoy. It's the default menu for all children's parties (at least all children parties I know) along with chicken lollipop. (Side track: My mother-in-law makes the best chicken lollipop ever!) Anyway, children of all ages really love spaghetti and can probably eat it all day. My little Rainbow is no different. She loves pasta! Everytime there's pasta is on the table, she always finishes her share.

So this morning, after some errands I decided to pass by the grocery and buy stuff for her spaghetti. All I would need is spaghetti sauce (If I could make it from scratch, I would however my cooking skills won't allow me) and pasta, and ground meat.

For the spaghetti sauce, the Del Monte Filipino style spaghetti sauce with MMK caught my attention. It has Malunggay (Moringa), Monggo (Mung Bean), and Kalabasa (Squash). 3 table spoons of this sauce is said to have the required daily vegetable serving, but in the form of a sweet pinoy style tomato sauce. Sold!

And then while browsing for some pasta, I saw this El Real Healthy Pasta. The word "Healthy" was screaming. Hehe. It says it's made from Durum wheat semolina which happens to be super rich in protein. It has real carrots and malunggay leaves that has beta-carotine and Vitamin A. And of course, it is very high in fiber. Sold! Talk about a Healthy Spaghetti!

I chose not to buy cheese anymore since for sure the sauce is sweet enough (just the way Pinoys like it). I made it for lunch this afternoon. I was half-expecting the pasta to have a different texture or taste, but surprisingly, it was just like eating a normal al dente pasta. Definitely no vegetable taste. As for the MMK sauce, it was really yummy. Just the way I like it. . I added a little ground beef as well. I totally forgot to take a picture of my final product. I'll just update this post tomorrow when I prepare it again for Rain hehe. Toink.

So anyway I'm just happy that I was able to prepare something for Rain that she really loves and at the same time, something I won't feel guilty about serving. And plus, it's so easy to make, even for me who's a dum dum in the kitchen.

  1. Must try this El Real Pasta soon. I often use Del Monte Pasta or Royal, because that's what my mom's always using. :)
