Another Toothbrush Milestone!

I posted a while back how Rain started out with her toothbrushing experience. A first when she started taking solids she was fine with brushing her teeth with the finger silicone toothbrush and water. Then after a few months I made a big mistake of putting a tiny bit of baby mint toothpaste and she hated it. Since then toothbrush time was hell. Then I took the advice of my sister in law and forced to brush her teeth even if she disliked it so much. And I also took the advice of a fellow reader to use flavored toothpaste. Gradually she began to like it and allowed me to brush her teeth without fighting back. She would allow me to brush her teeth 2 times a day:)

Then last May 26, I was just about to finish brushing her teeth and then for the very first time she reached out for her toothbrush, trying to take it away from my hand. So I gave it to her. Then.....

Voila!!!!!

She started brushing her teeth by herself!!! Way to go baby girl!!!:-) Okay so it was more of a mix of biting the head of the brush with her molar teeth + back and fourth movements but still! The biting action would still cause the bristles to brush her teeth right?

Just realized she looked scared in the photo hehehe. She probably felt weird doing it herself hahaha! So now, every toothbrush time, I brush her teeth first (making sure I cover all areas) and then I let her do it herself after.

Anyway that's it! Just wanted to share this simple yet beautiful milestone :-)

  3. Congratulations on the milestone baby Rain! :) Brush lagi ng teeth para always pretty ang smile. :) Happiness din when my little girl learned to appreciate toothbrushing. Hehe. We struggled at first, pero when we started using a fun toothbrush (Firefly ata yun, yung nag make ng sounds. :D) ayun nawili naman. We didn't use toothpaste until I think she was 1.5 years old, takot kami magstain yung teeth eh. Now she's 4 na and not a single sirang ngipin in sight yet, thanks to regular brushing ng teeth and less candies and junk food. :D

    2. Depende din siguro sa kind ng toothpaste. :) Pero if your pedia approved it, go lang ng go! Yung dentist-relative kasi ni hubby, hindi pa naman daw absolutely necessary for her age that time, e since afraidy kami sa staining horror stories, di muna for a time until fully 'knowledgeable' na si baby sa brushing. Paranoid 101 lang talaga siguro kami noon. Hehe. :)

  5. I have 2 big kids and another set of 2 lil' cuties. I used to remember, how I had to always follow them to the bathroom making sure they brush their teeth properly. Good Thing I was strict with that regimen, else I would be spending a lot with dental visits! My family is a "sweet-tooth" bunch so it is a must! Now my trouble is getting them not have braces, mahal eh! My first time here! Hope you visit my site as well:)
