Fisher-Price: Joy of Learning!

Where do I even start?

I’ve been holding off writing my experience from the Joy of Learning Workshop because I’ve learned so much and I found it all to be very helpful. It’s overwhelming in a way. But “good” overwhelming.  So today, I am finally sitting down in front of my laptop to attempt to write a draft and make it as simple and short but as effective as I can.

Reading Milestone!

"...Read... read... read...."

... was all I could read about tips on how to develop your child's brain. This stressed me a lot because whenever I attempted to read my little Rainbow a story, within 10 seconds she would snatch the book away from my hand and would just start flipping the pages herself. She gets bored even with my oh-so-dramatic reading voice (So dramatic I could apply as a voice talent in one of those radio drama series.)

But as everything has it's own time, Rain just recently (in fact, it was earlier this evening after that intense MOMxercise!)   started to really pay attention when I read to her. I felt like it was such a milestone!

Take note, my "Baa! Baa!" was very convincing!

So I decided to start doing little bits of exercise today. Something that doesn't require me to wear my now super snug aerobics attire.

Even stomach-in failed me! Source
So this morning, I joined Rain in her play mat in the living room and did some air-cycling while she played. (Laying down, pretending to cycle a bike with my legs). Take note, I haven't done any real exercise in a loooooooooooong time so it was sadly a challenge for me already.

And then in the afternoon while Rain and our helper were outside playing with the neighbor babies, I did some weight-lifting with my pink 2 lbs pair of weights. Just casually lifting my arms up and down for a good 30 minutes while watching the Asian Food Channel. (Toink!) I love taking it slow! (Excuses!)

Believe me I was sweating like a pig (pun intended) but of course I had to pat my shiny face for the picture ;-)

Chef Aaron Craze's Poached Local Sea Bass

Chef Aaron Craze, a brilliant English Chef who won as JaimeOliver’s Successor on the show Jaime’s Chef, visited Manila as part of his Rude Boy Cooks in Manila Tour! And after learning about his Cinderella Story, I have nothing but pure respect for this guy. He's an awesome cook, and an inspirational individual altogether! Read more about him from my post at The Pickiest Eater!

When we were invited by Chef Angelo Comsti to an afternoon event at Red Shangri-La with the Asian Food Channel to meet Chef Aaron and watch him in action, we didn't need to think twice! And so I fortunately got to see him cook an amazing fish dish!

Presenting Chef Aaron's Pouched Local Sea Bass!

If you love coconut-y dishes with a little heat, then you would love this dish as much as I did! I swear I was thisclose to ordering rice to go with it hahaha! The sea bass  was cooked and seasoned well, and the sauce... oh the sauce!... had the sweetness of the coconut, and a hint of heat from the chili. It was perfect! Hope I could muster up the guts to try and cook this at home hehe.

During the event I decided to take a video of him in action because I knew I would have a hard time jotting down notes and taking pictures at the same time. But because of the background noise, I couldn't make out some of the ingredients. FAIL!

Luckily, Mark Magallanes of Breakfast Magazine who was with us at the event, writes super fast and was able to jot down the recipe! And he graciously shared with me his notes. (Thanks Mark!)

So without further adieu, here's the recipe of Chef Aaron Craze's Poched Local Sea Bass! Enjoy!

Why A Motorcycle?!

The rain had just stopped. But a few minutes ago it was pouring down rain. It's night time and the roads are slippery. My husband and I were on our way home. And on the road I saw this family riding a motorcycle. The husband was driving, his wife sitting behind him. In between them was their little girl. Probably 5 or 6 years old. And seated on the wife's left leg, was their little boy, maybe 3 or 4 years old. All of them wearing NO HELMETS. Again, on a SLIPPERY ROAD!

I always see cases like this. And I can't help but shake my head in disbelief. Sometimes I even see babies in the arms of their mother riding the back of a motorcycle. One time I even saw a mom and a baby riding the back of a tricycle. Shouldn't they prioritize the mother with her baby to sit inside the side car? This bothers me so much. One little stone on the road is all it takes for a motorcycle to crash.

My Toddler Ate A Crayon

So guess what Rain decided to do earlier this evening? She ate a small piece of blue crayon. #Stress!

It was around 7pm and we just finished having dinner. I resumed with my work by the dining table, writing writing writing... while Rain was on the living room floor on the mat, laying down, watching Special Agent Oso. She was being well-behaved. I should have known. Usually when she's quiet it means either she's doing the deed or she's up to something. But I didn't notice. I was too busy with work as well.

After a few minutes, she started coughing. I quickly ran to her and pulled her up in a sitting position so she can cough easily. Imagine my surprise when I saw her cough up chunks of something blue...

Mister Donut Cafe Brings Original Pon De Ring in Manila!

I lived in Greenhills since I was born until about 5 years old. I have few memories of our house there but a good chunk of those were scenes from Viramall and Shopsville. At Viramall, the middle area used to be like a little amusement park for little kids with those kiddie rides where my dad would always make me ride. He said he also used to take me to Mister Donut. I don’t really quite remember. But I was surprised to know that Mister Donut has been around that long!

Remember this logo?

Old Mister Donut. Same spot and still standing!

Disney Jr. Birthday Book!

Yay! I have submitted Rain's picture to appear (hopefully) on the Disney Jr. Birthday Book!

If you're a Disney Jr. mom (who isn't?) then you would know what I'm talking about. It's that happy birthday video played from time to time in Disney Jr. showing photos of little kiddos who are celebrating their birthdays for the month. I love the song too! So snappy! "Today's a big day that comes once a year, it's your birthday!...." I always clap to the beat every time!

If you want to submit your little one's photo too, then you better get crackin'!

Wake Up Call from My Real-Life Brosia

I love Pugad Baboy! It's hilarious! Aside from the witty humor based on Filipino family everyday life, the illustrations are hilarious as well! What I especially find funny is Brosia's frank and insulting comments towards her boss, and everyone else in Pugad Baboy Village. So funny!!! But I didn't actually think I would experience getting a comment-ala-Brosia from our maid:

Carrie Lupoli Interview on ANC

I am so excited to write my experience from the Joy of Learning Workshop but since I have some back logs and actual work, it will have to wait a bit.

But in the meantime, since I'm such a fan of the workshop and Carrie Lupoli a.k.a. "Chief Mum", I strongly suggest you watch her interview below on ANC. Especially if you're a new mom of a 0-5 year old kid, this can really make a HUGE difference!

CHAMPS: Fun and Yummy Chewable Vitamins for Kids!

I clearly remember when I was around 5 or 6 years old, whenever my Dad would leave our room, my sister and I would sneak and get a couple of yummy chewable vitamins from the top of our shelf because it tasted so good! Whoever invented chewable vitamins for kids was a genius. Up to this day I still remember the tangy taste of those vitamins in fun Flintstone shapes which I loved so much!

But recently I just found out that a pharmaceutical company from Malasiya called CMM (Chemical Company of Malasiya), is here in the Philippines and their aim is to provide generic versions of medications that are cheaper but are equally effective. That means I won’t have to pay as much for an effective vitamins for Rain!

To my Father...

To the single father who, when asked by his daughter,

"Daddy, ayaw mo mag girlfriend?"

Just laughs and says...

"Ayoko! Magastos! Kayo muna."

To the father who never failed to put his daughters first and foremost before anything else.

My Dad :-)

We love you daddy!!! Happy Father's Day!!!

Refresh and Hydrate with Coco Royal! (WINNER ANNOUNCED!)

Me reading up on Coco Royal:
“.... It aids in digestion by cleaning your digestive system, treats COLDS and relieves stress.”

That’s just what I need! I thought to myself. The timing couldn't be perfect! It has been 5 days since I got this stupid cold and cough and today I was reading some information regarding the basil seed drink of Coco Royal and came upon this sentence. I was actually more ecstatic because the Basil Seed with honey is my personal favorite among all of the Coco Royal drinks!

Happy Father's Day Daddy!

Dear Daddy,

Thank you so much for being there the day I was born to hold Mommy's hand (and to take my first photo ever.) It meant so much to me that you were there!

Baby Model Search for Blue Water Day Spa's Baby Massage!

I'm not such a sucker for massages. I don't remember the last time I had one. But it was definitely months before I even found out I was pregnant. But I ever do, I usually make sure it's a nice clean place. Not scary places where the bathrooms don't look clean, etc. Something like Blue Water Day Spa.

Blue Water Day spa has top of the line amenities that one would look for in a nice spa place. It's a perfect family bonding and relaxation place. There's something for each member of the family. And I was even surprised that they have a signature massage treatment for babies. Yes. Babies can actually get their own R & R here!

Pepper Lunch Express

I love Pepper Lunch. Any chance I get to go there, I would. Any chance that Richie gets to go there without me, he's dead. Hehehehe.

One fine Sunday, my little family and I went to Robinsons Magnolia and was thrilled to see they had Pepper Lunch Express in their food court. Richie didn't have to twist my arm when he said to try the Express version.

Quirky Broom Stopper

This is a cute and quirky little product (literally). It's so simple but it does the job.

You know those instances when you sweep the floor, and then you need to stop for a bit, maybe to answer the phone, or to check your burning lunch, or to attend to your crying baby. Then you let the broom rest against the wall so it stands. But it never stands. It always always always slides sideways, and then falls down on the floor.

Slappy Cakes All Day Breakfast!

One of the joys of having household help / yaya is that I can bring my husband Richie to work, and we can bring the little Rainbow along with us. We now have someone to stay with Rain at the back seat while I drive. Richie loves it because it's his chance to show off our pretty little girl hehehe.

The little Rainbow doing her rounds at her Daddy's office

So I dressed her up in one of her dresses that she's about to outgrow soon. Better wear it as much as she can before it goes at the back of the closet! This was actually her dress during her first birthday. I got it from Carters in New Jersey when we visited my aunt during our lucky Oreo trip.

Nicer Home Photos of Rain

Felt like I haven't posted here in a while (except my birthday giveaways). How have you all been doing? :-)

For me it's been a roller coaster ride. Lots of ups and downs. Downs pertaining to house maintenance. It's a great thing to have your own house but my goodness maintaining it is really... well... expensive hehe. Oh well, still... thank you Lord that we have our own house :-)

Anyway, changing the topic, over the past few days I realized that I should be taking nicer home photos of Rain. And by nicer I mean I should use my DSLR more. Since it's easier to whip out the iPad / phone when Rain does something amusing, that's what I've been using. But now I will make sure to have the DSLR ready anytime! Sure it's more tedious because I have to upload the files on the computer before I can upload it on any social platform but I think it's worth the extra effort. Because before I know it, she's a teenager already with lots of #selfie photos on her social networks. Nooooooooooooo!!!!!
