The Biggest Teacher Gathering!: The PLDT Gabay Guro 2014

Filled arena

Since it was my first time to attend a PLDT Gabay Guro event, I was a little disoriented. I thought it was like a the usual events I would attend to like the PLDT Ultera event . So imagine my surprise when I saw the huge crowd outside. And when I say huge, I mean HUGE! So huge that the whole Arena was filled from top to bottom! It was crazy amazing! And to think that all of these are teachers! (Over 20,000 teachers from all over the country!) All unsung heroes that patiently teach and train our children to be our future! It was so heart-warming to see them all so excited to see their favorite stars! Being dubbed as the biggest teacher gathering of the year is an understatement. I firmly believed this could have been the biggest teacher gathering in the whole world ever!

The whole arena was really filled from top to bottom! And the entertainment just went on and on and on starting at 1PM, with Filipino artists, old and new, graced the stage with their talents, bringin huge smiles and squeals of happiness on the faces of all the teachers who attended. In fact you can even say that it’s the biggest Filipino artist concert of the year because of all the well-known entertainers that performed on stage! The performances would only stop in between to make way for some amazing raffles!

Side A Band

By the time me and my other fellow bloggers entered the arena, Side A was on stage singing one of their famous feel-good songs Tuloy Parin Ako (which I personally love!).

UMD Dancers

Some of the UMD Dancers took the stage and danced to Stars, a famous dance song when I was in late elementary I think...

Sex Bomb Dancers

Of course, the Sex Bomb Dancers were also there to dance their famous Spaghetti song.

UP Pep Squad

The UP Pep Squad was amazing! Everyone was blown away with their energy and routine!

Alice Dixon

Alice Dixon was also there to show the crowd that she's still got it!

Binibining Pilipinas Winners

The Binibining Pilipinas winners also stopped by to impart quick but inspiring messages for all the teachers. Beauty and brains indeed!

Filipino singers

And then for some more Throwback entertainment, Manilyn Reynes, Jessa Zaragoza, Dongong Avanzado, and Rachel Alejandro all their famous songs on solo, then at the end they all sung one song together. It was a delight hearing the crowd scream on the top of their lungs, especially during Rachel’s “Paalam Na Aking Mahal” song. It was almost as if everyone there had that their special memory with that song during those years. Hahaha! I think it was like the ultimate break up song before haha!

Ogie Alcasid

The teachers also enjoyed the performances of Mr. Ogie Alcasid who is not just known for his comedic acting, but is much more known in the field of music here in the Philippines. One of the best song writers, I believe.

Sam Milby

It was so fun watching the teachers scream their hearts out as soon as Sam Milby appeared on stage and serenaded the teachers with his dreamy voice. It was the first time I heard him sing live and I must admit he’s got a good singing voice.

And then came the big guns! Jonalyn Viray, Regine Velasquez, and the incomparable Dulce, each sung a solo and then sung a finale song together.

Dulce and Jonalyn left the stage in the hands of Regine, and she sung Gabay Guro’s theme song.

They weren’t kidding when they said that this Gabay Guro event was going to be packed with lots of prizes. I was a witness and yes they did give away so much that I couldn’t believe it! First of all, Smart and Sun Cellular both gave away 500 hand sets each. They literally handed it out to whoever approached the promo staff first around the arena. It was amazing! Then they also raffled off 10 winners of 10K cash each, two winners of 50K cash, 1 motorcycle winner from PR Savings Bank, 1 winner of a tricycle from Honda Philippines Inc, then a winner for a trip for 2 to Hong Kong sponsored by First, and 1 winner of 100K cash.

And for the grand prizes, a winner of an APE Piaggo three-wing van from Auto Italia, 1 winner of a HAMIA car from Laus Group of Companies , and the major prize is a house and lot from Camella Homes! But they didn’t stop there!

Plus, they also gave out 10 PLDT KaAsenso Cyberya Internet Café setups! This is quite interesting actually. And I can’t wait to tell you more about it as soon as I get more details!

So, needless to say, it was like an early Christmas for these unsung heroes.

During the end, I couldn’t help but realize why this place is packed with people. PLDT Home really went out of their way to organize such a huge star-studded event as a way of thanking all the Filipino teachers, who never gets tired of teaching our future. Because let’s face it, being a teacher plays a huge part in the lives of our children. It’s not easy. Teaching children is a huge responsibility. And so this huge concert is definitely well-deserved for all our hard-working teachers. I know we can never really repay them enough for all the love that they give our children, but at least in those 5-6 hours that they spent during the concert, everyone came out of the arena feeling like winners! And THAT is priceless!

In ending this blog post, allow me to share some heart-warming quotes about teachers which I found on the net. Don’t forget to thank your teacher this month!

“Every child should have a caring adult in their lives. And that’s not always a biological parent or family member. It may be a friend or neighbor. Often times it is a teacher.“

Joe Manchin

“Most of us end up with no more than five or six people who remember us. Teachers have thousands of people who remember them for the rest of their lives.“

Andy Rooney

Disclaimer: Apologies for my grainy pictures. My point-and-shoot camera can only do so much. But considering we were quite far from the stage, my camera Canon S110 did a very good job!
