For those who know me well, you would know that I have a thing for smart phones. When I walk around a mall, SM Malls for example, it gives me joy to look around in Cyberzone. Cell phone shops are sort of my happy place (besides Disneyland). It's weird, I know. And I don't always change my phone. I stick to one until for about 2 years when it usually runs slow already. Disclaimer! I'm not so knowledgeable when it comes to super technical terms but I do appreciate the basic features like surfing, messaging, and of course, the camera.
Say hello to LG's newest member, the LG G4. The very first distinct thing you will notice is the back casing. And in case you were wondering, yes it IS genuine leather.
What makes it more amazing is that it is hand-crafted. This gives the G4 a more luxurious and a more comfortable feel...
...especially since the back is in a slim arc shape. This makes it easier to hold the phone.
Next, let's turn it over to see the face. Its got a 5.5-inch screen with Quad HD IPS Quantum Display. It's really crisp and vibrant and the colors really pop out.
The reason for this is that the IPS Quantum Display is 20% greater in color reproduction, 25% more brightness, and 50% more contrast compared to the LG G3.
But what makes this even more special is that even with the screen's super powers, it supposedly will not eat up more battery life.
And last but not the least... the thing I'm most impressed about the G4. The camera. It is no doubt the best quality camera I've seen. The rear camera is 16 megapixels.
But it's not just because of the big pixels that make the LG G4 produce clear photos. It's a combination of three things. First of all is the aperture. For those not familiar with this term, think of aperture as the very gate/opening where light passes. It controls the amount of light that passes into the camera. The more light enters, the brighter the photo will be. And in terms of aperture settings, the smaller the f number, the larger the aperture, hence more light enters.
The aperture of the LG G4 is f1.8. Which means it is able to capture more light hence capturing more details in a photograph compared to other smartphones. (For comparison, the iPhone 6 Plus' aperture is f2.2)
Second is the Image Sensor. According to my google research, Image Sensor is basically made up of of millions of light-sensitive spots which are used to record information about the image that the camera is pointing at. This means that a bigger sensor has more capacity in getting more information than a smaller sensor and therefore will produce better detailed images. And oh, look! The LG G4's image sensor is 1/2.6 which is 40% larger compared to other smart phones (including iPhone 6).
And last but not the least is the optical image stabilization which means its ability to take crisper photos or videos even with shake-y hands. If the iPhone 6 Plus can move in a cross motion like the shock absorber of a car's wheels to take better videos or clearer photos, the LG G4 can not just move up/down/left/right, but can also move diagonally both sides as well. This means an even better stabilization.
Another thing is the G4's Color Spectrum Sensor which LG is the first ever to use in a smartphone. This Color Spectrum Sensor supposedly can read colors in exactly the same way as the human eye can.
And all of this explains why the G4's camera took a brighter and more crisp and detailed photo compared to my current phone when I tested it during the event. (Disclaimer: This shot is not made with a collage app. It's not a collage! It's my phone plainly taking a photo of the G4 taking a photo of the nice model! Look how bright! Even under soft indoor hotel lighting!)
Oh, and by the way, the front camera is 8 megapixels. Don't worry about your pimples or skin blemishes showing because like most androids now, it also has a beautification mode (among other things) which makes your skin soft and smooth looking!
Oh, and you don't have to worry about using up all your space with your stunning photos because the LG G4 (which comes with a 32 GB internal memory), is expandable with an SD memory card with the size of up to 2TB!
But LG didn't stop there. Aside from the expandable memory, LG has a cool surprise for G4 owners! They teamed up with Google Drive so that G4 owners will automatically get FREE 100GB of Google Drive storage! That's got to be more than enough storage for users who need to save big RAW photo files!
As for the user interface system, LG G4 now introduces the LG GX 4.0 which they say has a more simpler and more intuitive design. It has features that help make life easier with phone features that help you better organize your day and more!
The LG G4 also makes it possible and easy to share Google Docs like sheets and slides. Watch the video below for a quick run-through of what the LG GX 4.0 can do.
iPhone, you know I love you. I still do! And I don't mean to criticize you. But let's call a spade, a spade. The LG G4 wins in a lot of ways, most especially the camera. And this is also why the price of the G4 is on the steep side, starting at P31,990. (Throw in another thousand pesos if you want the leather variant.)
The LG G4 Metallic Finish variant comes in Shiny Gold, Black Titan & Ceramic White (P31,990)
..while the LG G4 Genuine Leather Variant is available in Brown, Black, Red (P32,990)
